Local teams set for today

San Antonio League champion Walnut (20-6) advanced after downing Palm Springs, 40-27, in its opener and Orange, 83-53, in the second round. St. Paul (24-2), No. 1 from the Camino Real League and the No. 4 seed in Division III-AA, will play at Oxnard Pacifica (18-9) in a second-round contest. St. Paul opened its title quest with a 70-32 rout of Savanna. Pacifica escaped with a 58-56 decision at Righetti. In boys soccer today, La Mirada and La Habra are the only remaining area teams. The Alpha League champion Heralds (21-6) advanced with a 61-22 victory over Mojave on Saturday. Desert Christian (19-3) defeated Holy Martyrs, 56-37. The Heralds and the Knights had opening-round byes. Three girls basketball games and a pair of boys soccer contests make up today’s CIF-Southern Section playoff area teams schedule. Whittier Christian’s girls, seeded No. 1, are on the road to play Lancaster Desert Christian in a Division V-AA quarterfinal. center_img La Mirada (20-5-1), Suburban League runner-up, is on the road to play San Gabriel Valley League champion Paramount (12-3-9). La Mirada ousted Santa Fe, 4-1. Paramount advanced with a 2-1 squeaker over wild-card winner Crescenta Valley. La Habra (24-5-1), No. 2 from the Freeway League, also is on the road against Miramonte League champion Diamond Ranch (12-2-5). La Habra got by wild-card winner Arcadia, 2-1, while Diamond Ranch eliminated wild-card winner California, 4-2.
