J’Lynn Ledesma finishes 14th at National Indoor Track and Field Championships

first_imgJ’Lynn Ledesmaby Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — Wichita State University high jumper J’Lynn Ledesma of Wellington completed a very successful indoor season by finishing 14th in the 2013 NCAA Division 1 Indoor Track and Field Championships in Fayetteville, Ark.Ledesma, a junior this year for WSU, finished leaping 1.78 meters (5-10) in the national finals, which is under her personal best of 1.86 meters (6-1 1/4) she achieved at the Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Championships in Cedar Falls, Iowa.The 2010 Wellington High School graduate came into the track and field championships seeded ninth. Brigetta Barrett of Arizona won the event with a leap of 1.95 meters (6-5). Ledesma broke a MVC record and secured a second consecutive MVC Indoor High Jump Championship when she out jumped Kenya Culmer of Southern Illinois on Feb. 25 at the University of Northern Iowa.She had earlier broke the record at the Air Force Challenge with a leap of 6-0 1/2. In 2012, she leaped 5-9 3/4 to win the MVC indoor championship. Ledesma is currently starting the outdoor portion of the track season for the Shockers.last_img
