The title is the Lions’ first since the 2004-05 season and third since they joined the conference in 1997-98. Voting for one’s own athlete is not permitted. To earn honorable mention, a student-athlete must appear on at least 25 percent of ballots. This is Veal’s second weekly award of the season after earning the accolade in Week 3 on Nov. 27. Men’s Basketball Player of the Week – Marlain Veal, Southeastern La. – Jr. – Guard – New Orleans, La. Veal averaged 13.5 points, 7.0 assists and 5.0 rebounds in an undefeated week to help the Lions clinch a share of the Southland regular season title and the top seed in the conference tournament. The junior guard began the week with 13 points, six assists, four rebounds and a steal in Wednesday’s 68-64 win at New Orleans. He followed that with a 14-point, eight-assist, six-rebound outing in Saturday’s battle for the No. 1 seed against Nicholls. Veal, a native of New Orleans, La., became the Lions’ single-season assist leader with 190 assists.
DUNFANAGHY is booming, that’s the verdict of business owners and traders based in the area following a hectic Easter holiday period. The scenic seaside village is a notorious hot-spot for tourists and is regularly frequented throughout the year.However, there was a huge influx of tourists over the Easter holiday period and the majority of visitors to Dunfanaghy stayed on beyond the weekend. The town has been a hive of activity with bars, shops, cafes and restaurants packed out all week.Local hotels have reported an increase in bookings compared to last year and say they expect a very busy summer ahead.If the weather is as glorious as it has been all week during the summer it will add to the attraction.The beautiful beach in nearby Marble Hill has been mobbed all week while Ards Forest Park has also been very busy.
